Changing The Way We Eat
Changing the foods we choose to eat can be progressive as it was for me but so rewarding. These are five groups of food that I highly recommend you invest in. They are:
Essential to good health is eating vegetables. However to reverse ageing I highly recommend that you eat raw organic vegetables. I use prodominantly vegetables with spirulina, chlorella, water kefir, rhodiola, etc. in my “rocket fuel“ smoothies. I find this a quick and easy way to maintain my energy and nutrition level throughout the day whether I’m at home or out and about.
Fruits are also vital to a youthful body. Berries provide very good amounts of antioxidiants which help protect against free radicals. Berries such as Acai (over 50 essential nutrients, reduces inflammation), Acerola, Camu Camu, Baoab, Amla, Blackberry, Blueberry, Cranberry, Goji/Wolfberry, Grapeseed, Inca/Golden berry, Jabuticaba, Mangosteen, Maqui, Pomegranate Seeds, Raspberry, Schisandra, Strawberry. Just a couple since they have a high volume of sugar which raises blood sugar levels.
The debate rages on meat eaters vs vegetarian.
I have achieved the best result by including organic, grass fed red meats and chicken in my diet. I don’t eat a lot but I certainly include them a few days a week. Fish is also a wonder food, especially that of the oily varieties like salmon, mackerel, sardines and trout. Unfortunately, one must be careful as to where the fish comes from as it can contain high levels of toxins and salmon is even coloured to look more appealing in the shop window! Go to the local farmers’ markets and you should be able to buy wild salmon.
Nuts and Oils
I follow a ketogenic diet whereby I burn fat not glucose. I take a spoonful of organic raw coconut oil several times a day. By doing so one may shed some weight, but certainly have greater energy reserves. Coconut oil is the best investment you can make because apart from eating it you can use it on your skin as a moisturizer and sun protection, it’s good to act as a conditioning treatment for your hair. I use a mix of coconut oil and bicarb soda (with no aluminium) to brush my teeth and I do regular oil pulling to clear bacteria and/or viruses from my body (a spoonful around the mouth for 20 minutes each day then spit it out).
I am also living proof that the oldest of foods are the best. I very much favour the use of ancient grains, herb and spices. Acai, Ashwaganda (Withania somnifera), Baobab, Organic Cacao powder, Camu camu, Chia Seeds, Flaxseeds, Maca, Nigella Sativa, Nopal Cactus. Most good health food stores will be able to recommend what you need. I add these mostly in powder form to my rocket fuel and in my yogurt with a sprinkle of nutmeg, cinnamon, sumac and coconut flakes on top.
